Tufte on music animation

One of the highlights of the recent Edward Tufte seminar I attended was a video he showed of a data visualization tool for music. The seminar actually began by the lights dimming, Chopin’s Berceuse playing with the visualization, and his commentary throughout.

Here’s a visualization of Debussy’s Clair de Lune, created via the Music Animation Machine:

Aurally and infographically beautiful. As Tufte points out: this video conveys a massive quantity of information, but due to the elegance of its presentation, no one suffers from “information overload” at its hands.
