Visualization of leaning buildings

Now here is an infographic a structural engineer can get behind: leaning towers. The Economist provides this nice visualization of several famous cases. Who knew Big Ben was 17 inches out of plumb? It’s interesting to note that if the Burj Khalifa (the building formerly known as the Burj Dubai) rotated by the same angle as Big Ben, at a height of 828 meters, the lateral tip displacement would be over 12 feet (assuming rigid body rotation—a huge caveat).
